Winning on Marketplaces: B2B's Next Frontier
Explore how B2B firms are leveraging marketplaces for sales growth, driven by AI and PIM systems to enhance data quality and streamline operations.
B2B marketplace adoption has crossed a threshold. 63% of B2B firms now sell through online marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, or sector-specific platforms, a rise of 26% since 2024. A further 20% plan to follow. That's more than four in five B2B firms either selling on marketplaces today or actively planning to.
This is no longer an experiment. Marketplaces have become a mainstream B2B sales channel, and the firms treating them as a future initiative are already watching competitors gain ground.
"63% of B2B firms sell via online marketplaces — a rise of 26% since 2024. Marketplaces are no longer a future channel. They're a current competitive battleground."
The numbers make the case
Marketplace adoption is rising, but what's really driving urgency is the revenue projection attached to it: B2B firms predict an average sales increase of 41% from online marketplaces over the next twelve months. That's a remarkable figure, and it reflects both the scale of marketplace audiences and the efficiency of selling through established platforms where purchasing decisions are already being made.
Marketplace use has also moved up the channel rankings. This year, 40% of B2B firms cite marketplaces as one of their top sales channels, up from 34% in 2025. They now sit alongside distributors and proprietary eCommerce portals as the three leading channels — and that list is likely to evolve further in coming years.
The product data challenge
Here's where marketplace strategy gets complicated. Selling effectively on Amazon, eBay, or a sector-specific platform requires impeccable product data: accurate titles, complete specifications, high-quality descriptions, correct categorization, and consistent information across every listing. Getting that wrong means poor discoverability, negative reviews, and returns.
For firms with large, complex product catalogues, maintaining that standard across their own portal and multiple marketplace channels simultaneously is a significant operational challenge, which is exactly why marketplace management has become one of the top reasons B2B firms are investing in PIM systems. Centralizing product data enables teams to push consistent, high-quality listings to every channel from a single source of truth, without manual duplication or the risk of information getting out of sync.
The integration imperative
Marketplace selling also creates new demands on back-end systems. Orders flowing from multiple platforms need to land in your ERP without manual intervention. Inventory levels need to update in real time so you're not overselling. Pricing needs to reflect account terms and market conditions. Without tight integration between your eCommerce platform and your ERP, marketplace selling at scale quickly becomes operationally unmanageable.
Truvio Commerce's built-in marketplace capabilities and ERP integration capabilities are designed for exactly this reality. Combined with native PIM functionality, the platform gives B2B firms the infrastructure to list, sell, and fulfill across multiple marketplace channels without adding operational complexity.
The marketplace opportunity in B2B is real, growing, and increasingly well-proven. The firms capturing it most effectively are those who've built the right data and integration foundations to support it at scale.
