How to Let Customers Pay Invoices Online in Dynamics 365 F&O

Stop keying card payments by phone. A customer payment portal for D365 F&O that posts and settles invoices automatically, using your own processor.

How to Let Customers Pay Invoices Online in Dynamics 365 F&O

The short answer

The simplest way to let customers pay invoices online in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is a self-service portal connected directly to F&O. Customers sign in, see their open invoices and pay by card at any time. Each payment posts to F&O and settles the invoices it covers automatically, so nobody keys card numbers or matches payments by hand.

What “please call us with your card number” really costs

In many B2B companies on D365 F&O, accounts receivable still runs on phone and email:

  • “What do we still owe you?” Customers call or email AR to ask about balances, and someone looks it up and replies.
  • Card numbers by phone. Staff take card details over the phone and type them into a terminal or gateway, then again into F&O.
  • Payments without references. Money arrives without a clear invoice number, and someone has to work out what it pays.

Each step costs AR time, slows down cash application and leaves invoices open longer than they should be. Handling card details by hand also adds security risk your team would rather not carry.

What a good D365 payment portal should do

When you compare options, look for five things:

  1. Real-time invoices from F&O. Customers see open invoices, balances and due dates straight from your ERP, not from a copy that drifts.
  2. Automatic posting and settlement. A payment should create the payment journal in F&O and settle the right invoices without anyone touching it.
  3. Two-way sync. If AR settles an invoice in F&O, the portal should reflect it too.
  4. Your payment processor, your rates. Some portals require you to move to their merchant services. That can mean renegotiating rates you have already won.
  5. Card data kept away from your systems. Card details should never touch F&O or your servers.

Truvio Payment Portal

Truvio Payment Portal is a customer payment portal built for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations in North America. It does all five.

  • Keep your processor. Card payments run through Spreedly to the processor and rates you already have.
  • Posted and settled automatically. Payments post to F&O and settle the invoices they cover, and settlements made in F&O update the portal.
  • Flexible payments. Customers can pay several invoices at once, pay one in part, save cards to a wallet, and get a receipt on screen and by email.
  • Multiple legal entities. One portal covers all your companies.
  • Your brand. The portal carries your logo, colors and fonts, so customers pay a supplier they recognize.
  • Nothing to host. Truvio runs the portal on Microsoft Azure in the US.
  • Room to grow. It’s built on Truvio Commerce, so it can later grow into ordering, quoting or a full B2B portal, licensed separately.

Setting it up is simple for your team. An admin activates a customer in F&O, the customer’s main contact gets an invite and can add colleagues, and they pay from there. Your customer service team can see every account to help anyone who gets stuck.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if you:

  • run Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations in the US or Canada
  • invoice many business customers, mainly through sales order and free text invoices
  • have customers asking to pay online, or staff keying in card payments by hand
  • operate one or several legal entities

Not the right fit (yet) if you:

  • run Business Central, which isn’t supported
  • need customers to pay by ACH or eCheck today. These are planned for a later release; until then, ask us about alternatives.
  • need invoice line details, invoice PDFs, discounts or surcharges at the point of payment
